An Enterprise Evolving in an Ever-Changing World

Saint-Hyacinthe, April 30, 2012 – In 2011, CIAQ began a new chapter in its history by establishing a variety of processes to maintain its leadership and profitability in a most competitive market and make sure to remain a reference in genetics with its clients. The enterprise concluded the year 2011 with excellent results, semen dose sales rose 9.1% to reach $25.11M, up $850,000. In addition, thanks to The Semex Alliance and its profit increase, the CIAQ share is worth $3.53M, pushing the net profit to $5.22M. As noted by Léonard Chabot, Chairman of CIAQ, in the presentation of the 2011 annual report: "Profits for 2011 increased the value of our investment in The Semex Alliance, which is on a roll. We can all be very proud to own such an enterprise through CIAQ."

Normand Renaud, CIAQ General Manager, added: "In last year's report, I mentioned that we had experienced a strong finish in 2010 and today, I can confirm that we maintained this pace in 2011. One thing remained the same throughout last year: the great quality of the sires we offer. Many have reached the top of the LPI list in their respective breed. Thanks to an intense selection made with genotyping, we succeeded in offering young sires for both the testing program and the Genomax selection that improved our exceptional selection of proven sires. For us, to be the 'Partner of choice in genetics' is more than a slogan!"

The quality of our sires is definitely related to the results obtained, but the important work of our field personnel who presented these results and brought proper arguments for an appropriate use of our products should not be underestimated. In addition, in 2011, a certification program was developed by CIAQ for the field personnel in relation to the new business model in order to decentralize competence at the provincial level, guarantee a high standard customer service, facilitate access to genetic tools such as ProGen and GenoPlan, and bring an added value to its products, thus contributing to the success of its clients.

Mr. Chabot pointed out: "Quebec is a mature market in which we can still get more shares. Our approach must be distinctive, so that is why directors supported the changes brought to our way of developing the new business model. The personnel involved will need to adapt to those changes and we have agreed with the management team that training would become a priority to attain this objective and should therefore be an integral part of the new business model."

Normand Renaud concluded: "For CIAQ, the future is bright. With sound finances, we can be farsighted and initiate the changes through which we will better serve our clients, increase our market shares and maintain our position as leader in bovine genetics."

The 2012-2013 Board of Directors

During his address, Mr. Léonard Chabot thanked the CIAQ management team as well as all personnel who worked together to develop these important projects for the enterprise. Mr. Chabot also thanked his fellow directors for the support and trust they showed by appointing him as Chairman for 2011. He said: "I am aware there were many challenges and I hope I have met their expectations. Working together as a team is always much more gratifying than working alone."

Prior to the presentation of the 2011 CIAQ annual report, on the same day, the members of the Board of Directors returned Mr. Léonard Chabot as President of the enterprise. He will be assisted in his duties by Mr. Daniel Côté and Mr. Guy Lavoie, respectively as 1st Vice President and 2nd Vice President. Also, Mr. Orance Mainville left the Board of Directors after four years as external member and an outstanding contribution to CIAQ through his business experience in the field of agriculture.

In 2012-2013, the Board will be welcoming a new member appointed by breeders, Mr. Germain Lehoux who is an Holstein breeder in Saint-Elzéar-de-Beauce and co-owner of Ferme B. Lehoux et fils with his brother Richard and their respective spouse, Claire and Ginette. Master Breeder in 2000, the Lehoux herd is also a founding member of Groupe Gen-I-Beq, renowned for their classifications among the best of the breed in Canada. Graduated from Institut de technologie agricole in La Pocatière, then a Valacta advisor from 1980 to 2010, Germain is now in charge of the Lehoux herd. He has been an administrator and then President of the Exposition du Bassin de la Chaudière, a Holstein Québec and Holstein Canada administrator, where he has also been President for two years. Germain Lehoux is also President of the Fondation Audrey Lehoux in the Chaudière-Appalaches area. In 2012, he is Honorary President of ITA La Pocatière Campus 50th anniversary celebrations.
